What is a Secure Online Account Number?

Secure Online Account Numbers is a free service that offers you added security by protecting your account number while shopping online, and the convenience of automatically filling online checkout forms.

By using a secure number in place of your actual Discover Card account number, your actual account number is not revealed on the Internet or stored in an online retailer's files. If they don't have your number, it can't be lost or stolen.

Because a secure number can only be used at the store where it was first assigned, if it is ever lost or stolen, it can't be used anywhere else.

With Secure Online Account Numbers you receive:

Maximum Security:
  • Generates a single-use card number when you buy online—Your Discover Card account number will not travel the internet
  • 100% Fraud Protection—guaranteed buying protection and internet security
Convenience:
  • Fills online check out forms
  • Access your Discover Card account with one click
What is a CID?

The CID (credit card identification number) is the three-digit number on the back of your card, also sometimes called a credit card verification number. Merchants often ask for the CID so that they know you have the card in your possession at the time you make a transaction.

When an online merchant asks for a CID number, please use the three-digit number generated by Secure Online Account Numbers.
